Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Associate
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Associate is a Registered Nurse (RN) enrolling in an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist Master’s, Doctoral or Post-graduate Program. This is a transitional role designed to support the RN as they complete their academic program before transitioning into a formal CNS position.
The CNS Associate scope of practice will be limited to the scope of a Registered Nurse. Not authorized or eligible to provide direct patient care in the APRN scope of practice including diagnosis, and management of health, illness and disease states, nor prescribing/ordering of medications and treatments.
The CNS Associate functions in collaboration with other CNSs to apply advanced knowledge to perform nursing assessments, diagnoses, interventions and design innovative processes or therapeutics. CNS Associate work with nurses and other members of interprofessional team to advance their nursing practice and improve outcomes and provide clinical expertise to effect system-wide change to improve programs of care.
The CNS Associate utilizes evidence-based nursing care standards and programs of care designed to achieve quality, cost-effective, patient-focused outcomes across the three spheres of impact:
Patient/Client, Nursing/Nursing Practice and Organization/Systems.
Minimum Requirements
- BSN from accredited program and an active RN license.
- Admitted or enrolled in a CNS accredited program MSN-CNS, DNP-CNS or post-graduate CNS certificate preferred
- Completion of MSN or post-graduate certificate within 3.5 years or DNP within 5 years
- Minimum of 3 years active clinical nursing experience in specialty area preferred
- Specialty certification preferred or within 1 year
Pay Range
Pay range for Clinical Nurse Specialist Associate, Neonatal: $40.21hr to $66.35. Final Compensation will be based on experience.
