Position: UR Breastfeeding Medicine Practice - Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) - RN 2, Outpatient

Job Summary

Part‑time Lactation Consultant – 24 hours per week, Monday‑Friday. The position works closely with a Breastfeeding Medicine provider to support families with complex lactation needs in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities
  • The Level II Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Nurse Manager, is accountable for the provision of competent direct patient care based on established standards, contributing to unit activities and supporting the enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level.
  • The Level II Registered Nurse supports peers in the delivery of patient care services and may assume an expanded role which includes charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member duties.
  • In the outpatient setting, the IBCLC works closely with a Breastfeeding Medicine provider, seeing patients with complex breastfeeding issues such as babies with prematurity, failure to thrive, parents with low milk supply, infections, complex medication regimens, and surgeries.
  • Promote breastfeeding and support staff through education and empowerment, serving as a resource to other team members, including learners and observers.
  • Manage electronic documentation tools and maintain professional communication with patients and the healthcare team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and IBCLC or CLC certification required.
  • Strong background in lactation care for complex maternal‑infant dyads.
  • Understanding of medical concerns in breastfeeding, including prematurity, medication, infections, and surgical complications.
  • Team player, detail‑oriented, reliable, competent, and proficient with electronic documentation tools.
  • Excellent communicator with patients and the healthcare team.
  • Part‑time availability: 24 hours per week, Monday‑Friday.
