Context

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The North Carolina Agromedicine Institute is a collaborative institute between East Carolina University, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina A&T State University. ECU leads the collaboration to promote the health and safety of farmers, fishermen, foresters, their workers, and their families through research, prevention/intervention, and education/outreach. The Institute promotes collaborative interdisciplinary research addressing rural population health and safety risks, with partnerships across professions and institutions to translate research into population health interventions.

Primary

Purpose of Position

The Brody School of Medicine NC Agromedicine Institute at East Carolina University seeks a 12-month, AT-WILL Associate Director. The Associate Director serves as the Institute s lead for scholarly engagement, research development, and sponsored programs initiatives. The role complements the Executive Director s leadership, expanding faculty participation, strengthening interdisciplinary research collaboration, and cultivating externally supported scholarly activity. It emphasizes higher education partnerships, research excellence, and strategic growth across ECU, partner institutions, and broader networks.

Project Management (55%):
Promote health and safety of farmers, fishermen, foresters, and their families through research, prevention/intervention, and education/outreach. Coordinate faculty affiliate engagement; attend University Research Council and other research-centered meetings; translate opportunities into action. Work with Advancement and research administration on funding initiatives. Identify and recruit Institute Members; maintain communication and support relative to their work in Agromedicine. Identify potential collaborative projects;

coordinate funding opportunities; communicate opportunities to teams. Identify project Directors/PIs; organize teams to prepare grant/contract proposals. Monitor project implementation and ensure compliance. Maintain a database of Institute Members  publications, projects, and student activities related to the Institute. Develop learning objectives and supervision for students; identify opportunities to collaborate with ECU, NC State, NC A&T, and community partners to develop courses in Agromedicine.

Support research dissemination; promote compliance readiness (IRB processes, best practices, responsible conduct of research). Prepare dashboards and impact summaries.

Strategic Planning (35%):
Identify emerging academic, research, and funding opportunities; develop strategies to expand faculty engagement; advance long-range plans for interdisciplinary agricultural safety and health research. Build partnerships with universities, centers, sponsors, and networks.…
