The Coordinator of Recreation Programs is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of the Intramural Sports, Club Sports, and Climbing Wall areas in Campus Recreation & Wellness. The Coordinator oversees 100+ student employees throughout the year.
The Programs area provides support for 20+ intramural sports activities for over 3,000 participants, 27 club sports with 800 participants, supervision of a 900 sq. ft climbing wall with 4,000 participants. This position will also supervise limited adventure outings in Eastern North Carolina.
The Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Sport Programs within Campus Recreation & Wellness. The Coordinator has primary responsibility for the operations of intramural sports, the climbing wall operation, limited outings throughout the semester, and some club sports activities. The Coordinator also has responsibility for data collection, long‑term planning, marketing, brand management and internal communication with both internal and external populations.
SportPrograms Management (70%)
- Coordinate the intramural sports program to include marketing, scheduling, site coordination, and game administration for 20+ sports and events annually.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training and scheduling of 25 student Sport Programs Supervisors, and up to 100 team sports officials throughout the year.
- Serve as main point of contact for indoor sport clubs and legacy/recreational club sports.
- Assist in development of a programming budget of approximately $245,000 and an operating budget of approximately $45,000 including personnel and programming cost.
- Assist in the coordination of travel arrangements for club sports.
- Coordinates game and practice scheduling with club leaders, game opponents, and master schedule for facility utilization.
- Mentor club officers and student athletes.
- Supervise a 900 square ft. top‑rope climbing wall to include risk management, weekly inspections, route‑setting, and customer service for over 4,000 climbers annually.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise up to 30 student climbing wall staff members.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and schedule the annual and semester activity calendar, including facility use, equipment needs, marketing efforts, and maintenance planning.
- Serves as the primary user of Fusion recreational software system with regards to set up and tracking of Adventure program offerings; including registration for outings, clinics, events, and climbing wall waivers/belay certifications.
- Market, coordinate and administers 8-10 outings annually to include local nature hikes, floats on local waterways, and other outdoor experiences in Eastern North Carolina.
- Master’s Degree required; or Bachelor’s degree in experiential education, recreation/sport administration, physical education or related field and two years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience with fiscal management of a recreational sports program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of intramural or club sports activities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in risk management planning.
- Demonstrated ability for clear, cogent written and verbal communication.
