Position Summary
The Class C Lineman Underground is an entry level lineman position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.
- String underground wire.
- Set poles and anchors.
- Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switch gear.
- Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
- Perform all related work as required to complete the job.
- Perform rigorous physical labor.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Be familiar with induced voltage.
- Assist with the installation and hook‑up of a single‑phase transformer.
- Safely set a pole.
- Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Properly install and remove PPE and cover‑up.
- Check voltage on transformers.
- Install and remove a service.
- Inspect rubber goods and PPE.
- Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
- Tie various lineman knots.
- Make up and use a hand line.
- Properly set up equipment and grounding procedures.
- Use Kellum grips when appropriate.
- Identify different types of materials used in line work.
- 1‑2 years of minimum field experience.
- Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment; a CDL is preferred.
- Travel long distances on short notice as required.
- Work for extended periods in various locations as required.
- Lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
- Work overtime when requested.
- Glove/work live high voltage distribution lines.
- Work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
- Follow company safety rules and all other company policies.
- Work outside of the normal work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Work EnvironmentThe employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outdoor weather conditions.
