SUMMARY:

As a Maintenance Technician at BJU Press, the ideal candidate will play a supporting role in the Printing Division by ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely operation of printing equipment through routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical systems.

About the Team: The purpose of the Printing Division is to produce quality textbooks and other printed materials to distribute to Christian schools and homeschoolers around the world. The Printing Division seeks to support the mission of BJU Press by printing materials in an efficient and cost effective process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance:
    Conduct scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance on printing presses, finishing equipment, conveyors, and other mechanical systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain accurate logs and maintenance records in compliance with company standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment:
    Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues in a timely manner to keep production running smoothly. Respond quickly to maintenance requests and emergency breakdowns during production shifts.
  • Install and set up equipment:
    Assist with the installation, alignment, and setup of new or relocated machinery and equipment. Ensure all installations meet safety and operational specifications.
  • Collaborate with production teams:
    Work closely with press operators, supervisors, and other technicians to identify recurring issues and improve overall equipment performance. Communicate effectively regarding job status, delays, or required resources.
  • Ensure safety and compliance:
    Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including lockout/tagout, PPE use, and OSHA regulations. Participate in safety audits and support initiatives to improve workplace safety.
  • Maintain tools and inventory:
    Use and maintain hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment properly and safely. Track and manage spare parts inventory to ensure readiness for future repairs.

Required Qualifications
  • Education & certification: High school diploma or GED required. Technical diploma or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Systems, or a related field preferred. OSHA safety training or certification a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial or facilities maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing or printing environment. Experience maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Familiarity with digital printing presses, bindery equipment, and conveyor systems is a strong advantage.
  • Technical skills: Proficient in reading technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and multimeters. Basic understanding of PLCs and control systems preferred. Ability to safely perform Lockout/Tagout procedures and follow all safety regulations.
  • Computer skills: Ability to use maintenance tracking software (CMMS), email, and basic computer functions for logging work orders and communicating with team members.
  • Physical requirements: Able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, bend, climb, and work in confined spaces or heights as needed. Ability to work on-call or occasional extended shifts during equipment failures or peak production periods.
