As a Tax Specialist in our Income Tax Services area, you will ensure compliance with South Carolina and federal tax laws by analyzing and adjusting Income Tax returns in a fair, consistent, and accurate manner.
Primary job duties include:- Reviewing and auditing tax returns and making any adjustments needed to ensure taxpayer compliance with federal and state tax laws
- Communicating with taxpayers to explain return adjustments
- Staying up to date on tax law changes and on knowledge of our internal tax systems
- Making recommendations to improve existing processes
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Bachelor’s degree with multiple accounting hours
- Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
- Associate’s degree and three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
- Twelve semester hours in accounting, audit, or other business-related subjects
- Basic knowledge of SC tax laws and forms and on-line computer systems

- Training:Tax Specialists will participate in an onboarding program to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to successfully perform their job.
- Hours: Flexible hours may be available from 7:30a.m. –5:00p.m., Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week)
- Telework schedule:This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days per week after one year of employment with SCDOR.
