Job Overview

The Payroll Tax Manageris responsible for all payroll tax activities performed within the Payroll Operations Team, including mergers and acquisitions. This role will support the Global Payroll Director to ensure the payroll tax needs for all respective business groups are met. The Payroll Tax Manager produces reports, meets with internal stakeholders, and supports the reconciliation of payroll tax-related G/L Accounts. This role also partners with the Managed Services provider(s) to ensure all pay-related tax data is received, verified and reconciled.

This also includes reviewing pay schedules, producing standard or custom reports, applying for new accounts, and producing ad- hoc queries. The Payroll Tax Manager ensures that all tax reporting and filings (including locals), Workers Comp., escheatment and related analyses are completed and accurate within all required deadlines.

A Day In The Life

Every day is different and you'll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you'll make a difference by:

  • Serving as Subject Matter Expert and leader for Payroll Tax, State Unemployment, Workers Comp., and Escheatment
  • Performing and overseeing all payroll tax support and administration activities for company's federal legal entities (25+), individual states (250+), and local tax (75+) jurisdictions. This includes working with the Managed Services provider(s) to ensure all payroll tax is funded and reported accurately and timely, troubleshooting and resolving payroll tax issues, applications for tax refunds or credits, researching and resolving tax over- and under-payments, and payroll tax account applications and monitoring.
  • Supporting the Corporate Accounting team in resolving payroll tax and G/L reconciliations timely and accurately
  • Complying with and completing internal and external audit requirements, internal control standards, and company polices; providing accurate supporting documentation as needed.
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to define reporting needs and troubleshoot any reporting/data issues and ensure proper filing and posting of all payroll taxes.
  • Generating payroll-related reports for the enterprise and for specific business groups; and identify and propose improvements.
  • Reviewing quarterly and annual W2 filings, as well as review of applicable wage types for HCE (W2 vs. last paystub), as well as mapping of new wage types to W2 boxes.
  • Producing multijurisdictional monthly, quarterly, or annual reporting as required; remaining current with Federal and State tax changes, and ensuring implementation of said changes correctly within the payroll systems.
  • Working with Treasury to execute payroll funding and escheatment.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate payroll tax integration, including new tax registrations, for all newly acquired and or merging business.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure confidentiality, data privacy, data security and SOX requirements are met at all times.

What will help you thrive in this role?
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years payroll tax, auditing and/or related experience in a large ($1B+), multi-national, multi-legal entity corporation.
  • 7+ years utilizing payroll systems to create, analyze and troubleshoot data.
  • Experience in SAP Financials, ADP Global View, Ceridian Day Force, and Success Factors HR preferred.
  • Payroll M&A experience preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Master of Science in Taxation (MST) preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail a must.
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize and multitask; must be able to balance competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understand the end‑to‑end process of payroll.
  • Ability to research, understand and apply federal, state and local regulations relating to payroll, labor, and employment tax laws, and the implications for reporting.
  • Integrity, trustworthiness, specific to confidentiality and privacy of employee information, with the ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of all payroll records.
