Source, negotiate, and purchase direct and indirect materials within quality specifications and pricing guidelines. Generate and implement a robust sourcing and category management model that drives value for the company. NOTE:

Direct materials being anything that is used in production at internal and external facilities. Indirect materials being anything required for MRO, lab supplies and services, engineering, warehouse, and office supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITIES
  • Consolidate requirements and develop the most suitable method for purchasing such as spot purchase orders, contracts, blanket orders, and supplier stocking arrangements.
  • Identify cost savings opportunities through data mining of internal data and spending trends. Source, negotiate and purchase materials. Accountable for creating purchase cost savings. For the timeliness and quality of product purchased for use within the company.
  • Gain familiarity with the end use of commodities, leading to the identification and alternative sources of pharmaceutical packaging components. Cross-train and learn the portfolio of direct and indirect materials.
  • Conduct request for quotations (RFQ) and negotiate a wide range of packaging and other materials.
  • Order samples for new products, choose and qualify suppliers. Work Closely with Product Development to identify the best alternative sources. Maintain detailed records of the sourcing results.
  • Prepare and distribute spend metrics at predetermined intervals.
  • Advise management of market conditions and supplier base activity which could affect pricing and/or delivery.
  • Perform and/or participate in supplier audits on existing approved suppliers and potential new suppliers for packaging components.
  • Create contractual agreements with key suppliers such that supply requirements are fulfilled with high quality goods.
  • Develop and maintain a category management strategy that will enable effective supplier management. The focus of the supplier management strategy will be to ensure high quality materials and services, improved lead times and margin-enhancing pricing.
  • Create an alternative sourcing plan for key packaging components.
  • Build an analysis tool that provides risk vs benefit of alternative packaging sourcing, sole sourcing, internal cost, and cost savings.
  • Working with Supply Chain planners, identify key suppliers and implement supplier management program to improve quality, delivery timeliness, cost, and performance
    • Develop KPIs and scorecards for quarterly reviews of supplier performance.
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and improvements.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelors’ degree in a business or management or equivalent 5+ years of related work experience. Proven work experience as a sourcing leader and/or similar procurement positions. Proven experience in RFQ creation, strong negotiation skills, and supplier management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Understanding of market dynamics and how to find new suppliers. Comfortable collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data. Solid judgement with ability to make good decisions that will enhance business results. Proven work experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Microsoft Office Suite is required. SAP experience preferred. Pharmaceutical industry preferred. Domestic travel may be required, as needed.
