Are you looking to build a rewarding career in residential construction? Smith Douglas Homes is seeking a motivated and eager-to-learn Construction Manager Trainee to join our team.
In this developmental role, you'll work side-by-side with an experienced Construction Manager, gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of the homebuilding process. You'll learn how to successfully manage quality, schedules, trade partners, budgets, and customer relationships while helping deliver exceptional homes and experiences to our homeowners.
This role is designed to prepare you for a future Construction Manager position, providing the training, mentorship, and real-world exposure needed to lead your own community and build strong relationships with trade partners, homeowners, and internal teams.
What You'll Do Construction Operations Support- Assist the Construction Manager with the day-to-day oversight of community construction activities.
- Gain hands-on experience managing schedules, quality standards, safety practices, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Support the coordination and communication of construction activities with trade partners and suppliers.
- Learn and apply Smith Douglas Homes construction processes, quality standards, and operational procedures.
- Meeting with county and city inspectors.
- Coordinating and scheduling required inspections.
- Communicating schedule changes and construction updates to management.
- Reviewing and signing for material deliveries.
- Monitoring jobsite conditions and ensuring homes remain on schedule.
- Participate in homeowner quality assurance walks and inspections.
- Assist with identifying and resolving construction-related concerns.
- Support efforts to ensure homes are delivered with the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction.
- Develop strong customer service skills while interacting with homeowners throughout the construction process.
- Replacing furnace filters and maintaining construction platforms.
- Repairing minor site and home deficiencies, including silt fence repairs, minor concrete cracks, cabinet touch-ups, vinyl window repairs, and interior woodwork adjustments.
- Installing replacement window sashes, screens, and damaged exterior doors as needed.
- Installing and maintaining community and homeowner signage.
- Assisting with punch-list completion and final home preparation activities.
- Build knowledge of residential construction methods, building codes, and quality standards.
- Develop skills in trade partner management, scheduling, budgeting, and customer communication.
- Participate in ongoing training and mentorship opportunities designed to prepare you for advancement into a Construction Manager role.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Building Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in residential construction, renovation, maintenance, or related trades preferred.
- Internship, co-op, or field experience within the construction industry is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Comfortable using internet-based applications and mobile technology.
- Ability and willingness to learn SMART Builder and other company software systems.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with homeowners, trade partners, and team members.
- Customer-focused mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong follow-through and accountability.
- Desire to learn, grow, and build a long-term career in residential construction.
