    The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) serves the rehabilitation needs of the 1.4 million people in a 29-county region of eastern North Carolina and is located within ECU Health Rehabilitation Center at ECU Health Medical Center, with Spinal Cord, Traumatic Brain Injury, General Rehab, Pediatric Rehabilitation, and Neuro Rehab Units.

The Center’s 75-bed inpatient unit is one of 18 CARF-accredited Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs in NC and is a center of excellence at ECU Health. ECU Health Medical Center is a JCAHO-accredited Level I Trauma center.

Position Details and Duties

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at East Carolina University seeks a board certified/board eligible Physiatrist to provide care in inpatient CARF-accredited units (spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, pediatric rehab, general rehab, and neuro rehab), in departmental and affiliated outpatient settings, and to provide consult services as needed.

Opportunities include musculoskeletal care, musculoskeletal ultrasound, amputee care, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, spasticity management (including baclofen pumps, Botox and phenol injections), interventional pain management, EMG/NCS, wound/hyperbaric medicine, and other clinical services. The candidate will participate in training residents, medical students, and allied health students. Research is supported and a valued component of the position.

Fixed Term (12 month) or Tenure Track position available at the title/rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Position contingent upon funding. Employment provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) with matching employer contributions and employee investment control, and eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans. This position is not eligible for the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS).

It offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.

Note:

While this position is not automatically eligible for TSERS, new hires transferring from another NC state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS may continue participation in TSERS and may be able to elect ORP if they had not been offered that option at initial enrollment.
