BASE is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in the Judson neighborhood of Greenville, SC. Youth
BASE is a unique educational intervention after school and summer program for under-resourced children in kindergarten to 2nd grade. Our mission is to equip students with the skills and abilities to overcome Behavioral, Academic, Social and Emotional difficulties so they may succeed at school, home, and in the community. This year-round program is offered free to families of children who are referred by their school teachers because they are performing significantly below grade level.
Youth
BASE is seeking a highly motivated professional with a passion for teaching literacy and writing to young children. This position requires consistency, flexibility, and a deep commitment to serving students who benefit from additional academic and emotional support. This position will involve lesson planning and implementation of writing and English Language Arts (ELA) strategies. If you have a passion for helping struggling learners to love writing stories and building their literacy skills, this job is for you!
Prior teaching experience is preferred, but not required.
This is a year-round position to begin March 2026 and will report to the Site Director. This position offers flexibility and may be filled as either a full-time or part-time position. Final compensation and monthly HRA reimbursement will vary based on experience, credentials, and agreed-upon hours.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Works with Site Director and staff, volunteers and families to build consistency of support across environments
- Works with children to provide compassionate guidance and structured programming that includes social-emotional lessons, positive behavior modification, and creative classroom management approaches
- Teaches, plans and implements daily small-group academic lessons, activities and homework based on grade-level curriculum standards
- Assists in planning and setting up for after school program and Family Nights, includes snack prep, Choice day activities, outdoor activities, etc.
- Maintains supplies and materials, communicates material needs to Site Director
- Prepares materials and space daily. Keeps facilities organized and does basic cleaning (i.e., sanitizing surfaces, vacuuming, bathroom cleaning, etc.)
- Facilitates outdoor activities for students, as needed
- Willingness to drive the 14 passenger bus to transport children. No CDL needed.
- Willingness to perform administrative tasks as needed.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Experienced and comfortable working with diverse populations
Experience teaching Pre-K and/or elementary-aged students - Educational background in child development, elementary education, developmental psychology, or social work
- 4-year bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
