Position Summary
The International Teacher Coach facilitates the successful transition and long-term retention of international educators. This role focuses on accelerating instructional impact and building teacher self-efficacy by bridging cultural gaps and district expectations. The coach provides individualized support through non-evaluative coaching, targeted professional learning, and strategic partnerships with school leaders and district departments.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching & Growth
- Provide job-embedded coaching via observation, modeling, and reflective feedback for international and alternatively certified teachers.
- Guide lesson planning, classroom management, and differentiated instruction aligned with district standards.
- Utilize coaching frameworks to increase teacher capacity and instructional confidence.
- Help teachers analyze student data to improve learning outcomes.
- Help teachers navigate U.S. school culture, professional norms, and district policies.
- Act as a cultural broker to clarify expectations regarding family engagement, professional communication, and classroom dynamics.
- Advise on evaluation systems (PAS-T), instructional terminology, and educator responsibilities.
- Serve as the primary liaison between school administration, instructional coaches, and international teachers.
- Facilitate advocacy and clear communication between teachers and building leaders.
- Partner with HR and Academic teams to enhance onboarding, induction, and retention.
- Coordinate with district personnel coaching first-year and GATE teachers.
- Design and lead specialized professional learning, cohort-based meetings, and support events.
- Develop resources and exemplars that bridge instructional growth with cultural understanding.
- Promote shared problem-solving and collaboration within teacher cohorts.
- Document coaching interactions and track teacher progress using district systems.
- Analyze cohort trends to identify strengths and systemic needs.
- Report insights to district leadership to improve support structures and long-term retention.
- Bachelor's degree in Education required;
Master's in Administration or Curriculum & Instruction preferred. - 5+ years of successful classroom teaching with proven student growth preferred.
- 3+ years as an instructional coach or administrator.
- Proven ability to support educators from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Deep knowledge of South Carolina standards, effective pedagogy, and research-based coaching.
- High level of cultural competence; skilled in building trust and facilitating growth-oriented dialogue.
- Ability to translate complex instructional data into actionable coaching steps.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills within a large school system.
