Cooperidge Consulting Firm is seeking a Chemical PSM Leader (Process Safety Management Engineer) for a global chemical industry leader in the Eastern North Carolina region.
This is a high-impact technical role responsible for the end-to-end implementation of the plant-wide PSM program. You will serve as the site's primary authority on regulatory compliance, managing everything from strategic safety goals and Management of Change (MOC) to complex incident investigations and audits. We are looking for a seasoned engineer who can bridge the gap between production, maintenance, and EHS to foster a world-class safety culture in a high-complexity chemical manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibilities- Program Strategy:
Establish and execute long-term strategies and performance goals for the continuous improvement of the site PSM program - Technical Compliance:
Assist cross-functional teams in reviewing process modifications, new construction, and operational changes to ensure 100% PSM compliance - Risk Facilitation:
Support site PHA facilitators by providing advanced training in HAZOP, SIL, SRS, and SIS to ensure all process hazards are identified and mitigated - Management of Change (MOC):
Oversee the MOC process, maintaining meticulous recordkeeping for all process changes, incident investigations, and corrective actions - Hazard Mitigation:
Facilitate the resolution of PSM corrective actions resulting from incident investigations and audits to eliminate process and physical hazards - Regulatory Liaison:
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies during site inspections and compliance activities; stay current on pending OSHA/EPA enforcement practices - Budgetary Oversight:
Develop and manage PSM program costs and resource allocation within the Health & Safety Department budget - Auditing:
Conduct rigorous PSM-focused audits to verify that policies and procedures are being followed consistently across all shifts
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is REQUIRED
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is REQUIRED (No current or future sponsorship available)
- Minimum of seven (7) or more years of experience as a Process Engineer in a PSM-regulated industry
- Standard Mastery:
Extensive, expert-level knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR Process Safety Management standards - Industry Background:
Deep understanding of chemical manufacturing operations, including pressurized systems and reactive chemistry
- Proven experience conducting detailed incident investigations and root-cause analysis (RCA)
- Strong technical writing skills for maintaining regulatory documentation and reporting
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence safety behaviors across all levels of the organization
