SWJ Technology specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer, Controls for a client in the automotive industry, specializing in car manufacturing. This is an eight-month contract position located in Greenville, South Carolina, requiring on-site presence. PURPOSE:The Manufacturing Engineer, Controls plays a key role in supporting and improving manufacturing operations through continuous improvement and automation initiatives. This position works closely with Manufacturing and Controls teams to optimize machine performance, integrate new technologies, and troubleshoot controls-related issues to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Lead and support continuous improvement projects in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering (MFE) personnel
- Implement and support automation projects such as camera system integrations, poka-yoke solutions, and sensor installations
- Update, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC programs to support production needs
- Diagnose and resolve machine downtime and PLC-related issues in cooperation with IT and Maintenance Controls teams
- Support and maintain control systems according to internal standards
- BA/BS degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience

- Hands‑on experience with Siemens PLCs and Siemens TIA Portal (primarily troubleshooting; full ground‑up programming not required)
- Experience with vision systems and camera programming/setup (e.g., Keyence, Cognex)
- Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
- Solid understanding of SCADA systems and their functionality
- Knowledge of MES systems and their role within manufacturing environments
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Experience with SQL Server Management Studio and basic querying
- Ability to troubleshoot control systems in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
SKILLS:
- Vision system expertise, ideally with Keyence
- Experience working with poka‑yoke systems and sensor‑based automation
- Familiarity with proprietary or standardized controls systems
- Fast learner with the ability to quickly adapt to internal tools and standards
- Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
