A Compliance Engineer ensures products, processes, and systems meet legal, safety, and industry standards (e.g., UL, ISO, CE). They analyze designs, perform tests, prepare documentation for regulatory agencies, and collaborate with engineering teams to mitigate risk and prevent product recalls. Key roles often involve auditing, developing compliance programs, and interpreting regulations.
Core Responsibilities
- Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Ensure products adhere to local, state, federal, and global safety regulations (e.g., UL 60335-2-40, OSHA, EPA).
- Testing & Validation: Coordinate with third‑party testing agencies to conduct product safety reviews and performance testing.
- Documentation Management: Maintain detailed records, technical files, and documentation required for certification audits.
- Design Consultation: Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to integrate compliance standards early in the product development lifecycle.
- Risk Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments and troubleshoot non‑compliance issues to prevent product failures or recalls.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: Several years of industry experience, often requiring knowledge of specific, complex regulations (e.g., FedRAMP, CE, ISO).
- Analytical
Skills:
Strong ability to interpret complex legal standards and apply them to technical designs. - Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for producing technical reports and presenting to management.
