Job Description Summary

Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).
Roles and ResponsibilitiesServe as the lead technical authority for the facility’s power distribution, variable frequency drives (VFDs), load banks, and generator synchronization equipment. Lead the maintenance and diagnostic activities for high-voltage and medium-voltage switch gear, transformers, excitation systems, and protective relaying associated with aeroderivative and heavy duty gas turbine units. Monitor and analyze electrical system performance data to identify trends, prevent failures, and optimize equipment life.
Direct troubleshooting efforts for electrical protection trips, relay logic issues, and control system irregularities. Manage arc flash studies, coordination studies, and equipment testing protocols (e.g., Megger, TTR, Doble testing) and ensure all electrical systems comply with IEEE, NEC, NESC, and local code requirements. Review and approve electrical designs and modifications, technical documentation, and maintenance procedures. Oversee electrical capital projects and major equipment retrofits, ensuring adherence to GE Vernova technical standards and best practices.
Act as the technical liaison during planned outages (Hot Gas Path, Major Inspections) for all electrical and instrumentation scope. Manage relationships with external contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) support teams. Champion electrical safety programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safe work practices, and incident investigations. Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on complex electrical systems within the facility.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering 7+ years of experience in power plant electrical systems, or similar industrial systems, and medium voltage equipment.
Desired CharacteristicsFamiliarity with GE control systems (e.g., Mark VI/VIe) and their integration with electrical protection. Experience with grid interconnection requirements and NERC CIP compliance.
Technical Skills- Strong understanding of generator protection, excitation systems, and power distribution systems (480V to 13.8kV+).
- Proficiency in reading/modifying electrical one-line diagrams, P&IDs, and control logic drawings.
Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
Other RequirementsStrong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills. This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
