Job Description Summary
The Lead Engineer, Wind Blades (NPI) will lead the design, development, and industrialization of next-generation wind turbine blade structures. You will play a pivotal role in the New Product Introduction (NPI) cycle, translating innovative concepts into reliable, high-performance design solutions. The role focuses on advanced design engineering, utilizing CAD/CAE tools to drive product quality, cost-competitiveness, and operational excellence from the concept phase through final validation and fleet support.
Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities
- Lead a composite structure design scope for NPI blade and develop structural solutions that are competitive in performance, cost, and quality.
- Partner closely with Blade Owner, Technical Leader & CTHs to deliver blade structural solutions from predesign phase to implementation in factory.
- Perform design & analysis of composite structure concepts using CATIA, ABAQUS & In-house tools.
- Lead and execute FEA design iterations to ensure fulfilment of all structure requirements of blade for load conditions including extreme & fatigue.
- Identify & manage technical risks throughout the product development lifecycle, implementing robust mitigation plans.
- Collaborate and execute structural design iterations including FE assessments to ensure fulfilment of all certification and internal design criterions for the blade structure.
- Work closely with cross functional team to identify and correct any design related potential obstacles to manufacturing. Proactively support blade start-up and ramp-up in production on structure design related queries for quick approvals & dispositions.
- Collaborate with test centres to ensure all regulatory compliance and internal test requirements are achieved.
- Participate in technical discussions/meetings related to blade structure with customers and/or certification bodies and represent GEV Wind
- Conduct, lead or contribute to structure design review for assigned scope.
- Provide guidance and coaching to other engineers and enable them to efficiently execute assigned tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace or Civil Structural Engineering from a reputed university
- 4-6 years of experience in a mechanical structural design engineering position
- 2+ years of experience in composite material structural design and analysis preferably in wind turbine rotor blade
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Global experience with proven ability to work with international and/or cross-functional teams across cultural boundaries
- Fluent in English, Verbal & Written
Desired Characteristics
- Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace or Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural stream from a reputed university
- Solid background in mechanical design with sound engineering fundamentals
- Willingness to adapt and explore GEV Wind inhouse blade design tools and processes
- Proficient in CATIA composite design with focus on attention to details
- Proficient in structural finite element analysis using ABAQUS with focus on results interpretation and efficient design changes to achieve desired outcome
- Familiarity with GD&T, 2D Drawings, Teamcenter, Work Instructions with good understanding of Product Lifecycle Management
- Knowledge of wind turbine rotor blade full scale manufacturing and component level process trials
- Exposure of wind turbine rotor blade full scale test and coupon/sub-article tests
- Ability and willingness to challenge legacy design processes, safety factors, materials to drive GEV Wind forward
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage stakeholders with accountability and ownership
- Proactive, self-motivated, and innovative in approach with focus on possibilities than limitations
- Willingness to travel (domestic/international) at short notice for around 20% of time
