Senior Electrical Engineer – Water/Wastewater
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Compensation: $80,000–$100,000 annually, DOE
Position SummaryWe are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with strong expertise in water/wastewater treatment facility electrical design to lead and deliver complex electrical engineering projects in Greenville, SC.
The ideal candidate will be a Professional Engineer (PE) with significant experience designing electrical power systems for municipal water/wastewater treatment facilities or comparable industrial process facilities. This position requires hands‑on expertise in electrical design, Revit, power distribution, power studies, field troubleshooting, and multidisciplinary project coordination
.
- Lead electrical engineering and design for water and wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems
. - Develop and oversee electrical designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Perform hands‑on electrical design using Revit and ensure designs meet project requirements and applicable standards.
- Design and evaluate low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems
. - Develop electrical one‑line diagrams, plans, details, equipment layouts, and specifications.
- Design and evaluate standby/emergency power generation systems
. - Perform motor starting and motor control evaluations.
- Design lighting, grounding, bonding, and lightning protection systems.
- Perform and/or oversee short‑circuit, protective‑device coordination, and arc‑flash studies
. - Evaluate existing electrical equipment and infrastructure and recommend improvements or upgrades.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues and provide practical field engineering and problem‑resolution support
. - Coordinate electrical designs with instrumentation & controls (I&C), SCADA, mechanical, civil, structural, and other engineering disciplines
. - Participate in client meetings, site assessments, inspections, and project discussions.
- Mentor and develop other electrical engineering staff.
- Maintain compliance with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, company standards, and project requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program
. - Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 6+ years of electrical engineering/design experience
; 15+ years is strongly preferred for the senior‑level profile. - Direct experience with water/wastewater treatment facilities, municipal water infrastructure, or highly comparable industrial process facilities
. - Demonstrated experience producing or overseeing hands‑on electrical designs in Revit
. - Strong knowledge of:
- Low- and medium-voltage power distribution
- Standby/emergency power systems
- Motor starting and motor control
- Electrical one-lines
- Grounding and bonding
- Electrical plans and details
- Electrical specifications
- Experience performing or managing short‑circuit, arc‑flash, and overcurrent/protective‑device coordination studies

- Previous experience with municipal water/wastewater consulting projects
. - Experience with SKM Power Tools or Easy Power
. - AutoCAD experience.
- Experience with instrumentation and controls (I&C).
- Experience with SCADA systems
. - Experience leading electrical design teams and mentoring engineers.
- Experience working directly with municipal clients and project stakeholders.
The strongest candidate will be a PE‑licensed electrical engineer with 15+ years of experience
, including substantial hands‑on electrical design experience for water/wastewater treatment plants
.
The candidate should be able to independently take a project from existing‑condition assessment through electrical design, calculations, construction documents, field support, and client coordination
.
Candidates whose backgrounds are primarily commercial buildings, general MEP, or unrelated industrial electrical work without significant water/wastewater treatment experience will not be considered a strong match
