MECHANICAL (DESIGN) ENGINEER | On-site | Permanent - U.S. citizenship
due to export-controlled programmes.
The OpportunityWe are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join a small, multi-disciplinary Research and Development (R&D) environment. This is a hands‑on engineering role combining mechanical design, analysis, project management and direct customer communication.
The role offers a broad mix of technical responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on finite element analysis, structural and thermal calculations, CAD development and engineering design.
The RoleYour time will be broadly divided across three key areas:
- 40% CAD, BOM and drawing package development
- 40% ASME code calculations, structural analysis and thermal analysis
- 20% Project management, customer communication and team coordination
A key focus of the position will be your ability to perform technical finite element analysis calculations, including assessing stresses in components such as beams and pipes.
What You'll Be Doing- Develop CAD models, Bills of Materials and engineering drawing packages.
- Work with large 3D modelling assemblies requiring variable levels of detail.
- Perform in-depth structural, thermal and fluid calculations to support engineering design decisions.
- Carry out static structural and thermal analysis using Inventor and/or Solid Works.
- Perform finite element analysis calculations to evaluate structural performance.
- Complete ASME code calculations and support engineering analysis.
- Manage projects and coordinate activities across the engineering team.
- Communicate directly with customers and support customer requirements.
- Work as part of a small, multi-disciplinary R&D team in a hands‑on environment.
- Travel to domestic and international client sites as required, up to approximately 10%.
The following are minimum requirements for the role:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited US school.
- Proficiency in CAD, using platforms such as Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works or Solid Edge.
- Experience working with large 3D modelling assemblies.
- Strong structural, thermal and fluid calculation capability.
- Experience with static structural and thermal analysis using Inventor and/or Solid Works.
- Ability to work hands‑on within a small, multi-disciplinary R&D environment.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to client sites, up to 10%.
- U.S. citizenship due to export-controlled programmes.
- Current U.S. passport and driver's licence.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen as part of the initial hiring process.
The following would be advantageous:
- Current Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT/EI) certification with plans to pursue a Professional Engineer licence.
- Experience with ASME B31 and BPVC code calculations using Excel, hand calculations and common engineering tools.
- Experience designing equipment for hazardous materials, including flammables, toxics and water‑reactive materials.
- Experience designing skids, frames, pressure piping and pressure vessels.
This is an opportunity for a mechanically strong engineer who enjoys both design and analysis and wants to work close to the engineering detail.
The role combines CAD, advanced calculations, FEA, project management and customer interaction, giving you the opportunity to contribute across the full engineering lifecycle.
