Job DescriptionThe Physical Therapist Assistant II reports to the Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant II provides optimal patient care by implementing a physical therapy program to individuals based upon age‑specific needs utilizing a developmental and patient/family directed approach. Under the general supervision of a Physical Therapist I, II, or III, functions as a staff physical therapist assistant. Supervises PTA students and provides clinical education experiences.
Patient populations served: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric for a variety of diagnosis to include but not limited to: neurologic, orthopedic, post‑surgical, pediatric, medically complex, inpatient or outpatient throughout the hospital system.
Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program, less than one year experience as a physical therapy assistant.
Licensure- Physical Therapy Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
NOTE:
The following descriptions are applicable to this section:
1) Continuous C – 6-8 hours per shift;
2) Frequent F – 2-6 hours per shift;
3) Infrequent I– 0-2 hours per shift. Ability to perform job functions while standing (C), sitting (C), walking (C). Ability to climb stairs (I), work indoors (C), work outside in temperature extremes (I), work from elevated areas (F), work in confined/cramped spaces (F), perform from kneeling positions (I), bend at the waist (C), twist at the waist (F), squat (F), perform “pinching” operations (F), perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands (C), firm grasping (C), fine manipulation (C), reach overhead (F), repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (C), fully use both legs (C), lower extremities for balance and coordination (F), reach in all directions (C), lift and carry 50 lbs.
unassisted (I), lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted (I), lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs (I), exert up to 50 lbs. of force (F), transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist requires 50 lbs. of force, 20 lbs. of force to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet, 25 lbs. of force to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
Maintain vision 20/40 corrected (C), see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance (C), match or discriminate between colors (C), determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception (C), good peripheral vision capabilities (C), maintain hearing acuity with correction (C), perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (C), deal effectively with stressful situations (C), work rotating shifts (F), work overtime as required (F), work in a latex safe environment (C), maintain tactile sensory functions (C).
Selected positions: maintain good olfactory sensory function, qualify physically for respirator use initially and as required.
