The EHS Manager works with plant management to oversee the execution of environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs, to include policies, processes, procedures and controls. Ensures employee activities conform to established standards and comply with applicable Federal, State, Customer and various government agency guidelines and requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manages, implements and maintains required EHS operational processes to ensure employee and contractor awareness, comprehension and adherence to approved environmental, health and safety practices
- Conducts risk reviews, EHS inspections/audits and internal assessments of operations to ensure compliance to requirements and applicable EHS laws, regulations and standards
- Manages regulatory agency, third party audits, inspections, inquiries, contacts and reporting
- Evaluates EHS implications of new product introduction
- Implements hazardous and environmental waste management programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and standards
- Develops, modifies and maintains applicable EHS procedures, processes and training as required
- Maintain the accident/injury log such as the OSHA Form 300
- Oversees injury, near miss, and incident investigations
- Ensures expedient injury and incident trend and causal analysis and reporting to senior and site management, including recommendations to address identified issues
- Schedules and conducts proper testing and reporting to include air quality, noise exposure, chemical reporting, water sampling and documentation and emissions reporting
- Works in partnership with senior and site management to develop and implement strategies, policies, and services to increase employee safety & reduce organization risks
- Maintains awareness of regulatory changes and disseminates safety-related bulletins, technical changes and literature to work site personnel
- Maintain relationships with outside organizations such as regulatory agencies (EPA, OSHA, SCDHEC, DOT, etc.), fire departments, rescue teams, medical facilities, workers compensation divisions, insurance companies and investigation companies in order to assure information exchange and mutual assistance
- Provides leadership training and knowledge transfer to staff members and teams as necessary
- Oversee confined space equipment, entry and rescue processes to ensure safety and compliance to OSHA standard.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety, or closely related field with appropriate experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing Environmental Health and Safety in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Advanced knowledge of Federal and State regulations and requirements, particularly as they relate to occupational and industrial safety and health practices.
- Proficient and knowledgeable in laws, regulations and compliance requirements for hazardous material (HAZMAT) and hazardous waste management
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Extensive experience in project planning and management skills
- Proven leadership ability. Ability to get results through influence, negotiation and teamwork
