The Brody School of Department at East Carolina University ( ECU ) is composed of 18 departments which function to:
1) To increase the supply of primary care physicians to serve the state;
2) To improve the health and well‑being of the region; and
3) To train physicians who will meet the health care needs of the state.

Playing an important role in the Brody School of Medicine’s academic group practice, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine consists of the Department Chairman, Michael Lang, MD, Medical Directors of Clinical Services, David Faro, MD, leadership core units (Department Administrator, Operations Committee/Section Chiefs, Nurse Administrator). The primary roles of education (students, residents, fellows and continuing medical education), clinical services (Outpatient Psychiatric services include:
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS);
Geriatrics;
Ketamine Treatment; psychotherapy;
Addiction Medicine; Behavioral Medicine: Health Psychology; Neuropsychology; Autism; Child & Adolescent Psychiatry), research, academic affairs/faculty development, and administration (business and clinical support services) are led by the Department Chairman and (Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine) Operations Committee. The clinical sections represented in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine include: (General Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Behavioral Medicine, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Telespychiatry).

The majority of the department’s educational, clinical and research activities take place within the context of the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine and the ECU Health Medical Center.

ECU Health is a mission‑driven, 1000+ bed health system that annually serves more than 1.4 million people in 29 eastern North Carolina counties. The not‑for‑profit system is made up of 12,000 employees, eight hospitals, home health, hospice, wellness centers, and ECU Health Medical Group, a multi‑specialty physician and provider group with more than 420 providers in more than 80 practice sites in eastern North Carolina.

ECU Health is affiliated with The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. As a major resource for health services and education, ECU Health Medical Center has a mission to improve the health and well‑being of eastern North Carolina. ECU Health and Acadia Healthcare have built a state of the art, 144‑bed behavioral health facility, opening soon. The new facility will include 24 inpatient beds dedicated to the mental health needs of children and adolescents.

Job Duties

Financial Management, Revenue Analysis & Revenue Enhancement of Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine

Preparation of Departmental budgets, for both ECU and ECU Health, and prepare revenue forecasts for each funding source:
Medical Faculty Practice Plan, State funds, Clinical Trials, Grants, Special Funds and the Medical Foundation. Develops the annual and continuing budget process, projecting expenditures and revenues for short and long‑range forecasts. Prepares written and graphic material for presentation to School of Medicine and Finance Committee external funding in support of budget requests.

  • Evaluates all department activities and analyzes financial trends to provide advice on prioritizing yearly budget initiatives in the department.
