Data Center Technician

The Data Center Technician is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting critical data center infrastructure and IT systems. This role ensures continuous uptime, security, and performance of servers, networks, power systems, and environmental controls within the data center. The ideal candidate is highly attentive, technically skilled, and able to respond quickly to alerts and operational anomalies.

Monitoring & Incident Response:

  • Monitor data center systems, network devices, servers, and environmental controls via NOC dashboards and monitoring tools.
  • Respond to system alerts, alarms, and outages; perform initial triage and escalation as needed.
  • Execute troubleshooting steps for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  • Document incidents, actions taken, and resolutions in the ticketing system.

Infrastructure Support:

  • Perform hands-on support including racking/stacking of equipment, cabling, and hardware replacement.
  • Conduct routine inspections of power, cooling, UPS, and security systems.
  • Assist with provisioning new servers, network equipment, and data center infrastructure.
  • Support patching, updates, and routine maintenance activities.

Operational Tasks:

  • Maintain accurate inventory of data center equipment and components.
  • Ensure all systems comply with operational standards, security protocols, and change management practices.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, upgrades, and deployments.
  • Generate daily, weekly, or monthly operational reports as required.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for issue resolution.
  • Provide timely updates on incidents and ongoing tasks to leadership and technical teams.
  • Follow NOC procedures, runbooks, escalation paths, and service-level requirements.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in a NOC, data center, or IT operations environment.
  • Understanding of networking basics.
  • Familiarity with server hardware and data center operations.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment.
  • Willingness to work shifts.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with monitoring platforms.
  • Knowledge of virtualization, Linux/Windows server environments, and cloud fundamentals.
  • Experience with ticketing systems.
Soft Skills

Detail-oriented with strong situational awareness. Ability to stay calm under pressure. Team-oriented with strong customer service mindset. Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Work Environment:

Data center environment with exposure to noise, cold/hot aisles, and physical tasks. Fast-paced operational setting requiring focus, accuracy, and quick decision-making.
