Design Engineer - Comms

The Design Engineer I represents a high level of technical expertise to internal and external customers in a variety of forms that include design assistance, delivering education, and enabling the customer to do business with Scan Source. The focus of the position may be on specified technologies, or on a specific group of suppliers. This role is expected to be an expert in Network Technologies and will act as a trusted advisor to the company's customers.

This individual would have detailed knowledge of a multiple product lines, and able to guide a customer through designing the best overall solution which would include hardware, software, and licensing.

• Researches, recommends, and evaluates customer requirements to ensure the needs of the Business Partner and End User are satisfied.
• Prepares configurations via vendor configuration tool with appropriate pricing estimates distributed to all concerned parties.
• Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in field of Communication Technology
• Create technical content for sales enablement and marketing
• Attend supplier and partner conferences as needed
• Participate in customer enablement programs

• Under minimal supervision and with appreciable latitude for actions and decisions, has responsibility for all aspects of difficult projects that are broad in nature and require originality and ingenuity.
• Reports to Director of Solution and Design

• Minimum five (5) year prior related experience and Avaya small/mid market Design certified. Experience with Enterprise a plus.
• Experience with the following technologies
• Avaya/Mitel
• Technical documentation, business analysis and/or technical writing experience a plus
• Work history of consultative sales and/or partner-facing roles
• Proven ability to gather and understand customer requirements, business objectives, and success criteria as part of the discovery process. Take those outputs and build a holistic solution to meet that customer’s business needs.

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Experience in distribution or working for a partner/reseller

• May require sitting at computer for long periods of time.
• Minimal lifting may be required.
• An essential function for this position, based on business necessity, is that the employee must be physically in attendance at his/her workstation at the designated company office location during the normal business hours designated for the position.
• Ability to travel 10% of the time

Base Range : $46,000 - $61,000 and total compensation range: $50,000 - $65,000

Actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on a number of variables including work experience, education and skills/ achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.

For non-sales roles and sales roles with a variable component, total compensation reflects both a base salary and variable targets .
