Institutional Data Engineer

Join South Carolina DDSN in Richland County, SC (onsite) supporting the University of South Carolina’s enterprise data infrastructure. This role focuses on delivering scalable institutional data access, strengthening data accuracy and consistency, and modernizing analytics capabilities to support reliable reporting and governance. You will work with established enterprise systems and a toolkit spanning SQL, ETL/ELT, data warehousing, and BI.

• Provide scalable and reliable access to institutional data for analytics and reporting.
• Improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across analytical environments.
• Modernize the institution’s analytics capabilities to better support institutional research and decision-making.

• Knowledge of higher education data structures
  , business processes, and institutional research methodologies

• Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
• Ability to collaborate across distributed, cross-functional teams.

Work across SQL and relational data platforms using ETL/ELT and data warehousing concepts, with experience in tools and environments such as:

• SQL and relational databases
• ETL/ELT technologies and data warehousing concepts
• IBM Data Storage, Informatica, SSIS
• Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL
• Dimensional modeling
• BI tools including Cognos, Tableau, and PowerBI

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in ETL tools (IBM Data Storage, Informatica, SSIS) and BI tools (Cognos, Tableau, PowerBI), including recommended configuration and security practices in hardware and cloud-based server environments.
• Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, transformation, and optimization.
• Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and dimensional modeling

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience working in higher education or public sector environments.
• Experience with enterprise data systems (HR, Finance, Student Information, Learning Management) and large-scale institutional datasets.
