Overview
Position Description. Responsibilities include assisting Supervisors and Managers at the Terminal with all aspects of bulk handling operations and maintenance; training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems; and ensuring safe and efficient movement of bulk cargo operations.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Supervise employees, assigning job tasks as necessary for the movement of commodities and maintenance of the handling equipment and facilities.
- Follow and enforce all rules and procedures established for the safe and efficient operation of bulk handling equipment.
- Observe for compliance with safety rules and procedures.
- Ensure new employees are trained as necessary for tasks to be performed.
- Job Postings – create and follow through to completion on the hiring of employees.
- Job Progression – manage the job advancement program and present it at company-set times.
- Understand and communicate understanding to others of bulk movement operations and bulk material handling operations.
- Train and develop subordinates in dry bulk unloading and loading maintenance operations.
- Lead the electrical and maintenance crew with electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of conveyor machinery.
- Assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
- Control spare parts inventory, prepare requisitions and purchase material in compliance with Kinder Morgan’s procurement policies.
- Study production schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.
- Interpret specifications and job orders to workers, and assign duties.
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and the quality of product handling.
- Understand environmental impact of dry bulk handling operations.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of truck loading, ship crews, track department, or work crew.
- Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist workers in solving work problems.
- Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Maintain payroll and overtime documentation and coordinate with Admin. Assistant regarding employee time records and weekly timesheet issues.
- Two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed.
- Understanding of maintenance of bulk handling operations/equipment.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and related Office Suite products).
- Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business segment leaders.
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, track and manage small projects, and maintain confidentiality as necessary.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal direct supervision.
- General understanding of how corporate policies relate to the dry bulk business segment and related units.
- Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, and adhere to work schedules.
- Thorough knowledge/understanding of bulk materials handling and ability to communicate this knowledge.
- Certifications, licenses, registrations: TWIC; safety training/certification as required by customers and Kinder Morgan; valid motor vehicle operator’s license and willingness to use personal or company vehicle as needed.

Proficient PC skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong leadership, communication, motivation, and interpersonal skills; ability to manage projects and work with diverse teams; experience in developing and managing operating budgets; ability to establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship.
