Hiring for Structural Fitter in Taylors, SC pays up to $23-$27/hr
Job Description

As a Structural Fitter, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting structural steel drawings, dimensions, weld symbols, and material callouts. You will apply layout using reference points, centerlines, match marks, and multi-view drawings. Your role will involve identifying discrepancies and coordinating with supervision to resolve issues. You will select the correct steel sections, plates, brackets, gussets, stiffeners, and related components, performing accurate measurement, marking, and alignment per drawing tolerances.

Responsibilities
  • Use clamps, wedges, shims, grinders, torches, and other tools to achieve proper joint fit-up.
  • Verify hole placement, bolt patterns, bevels, and part orientation.
  • Fit and assemble basic to complex structural components such as channel frames, trusses, curved or rolled members, and multi-directional assemblies.
  • Ensure weld access and proper sequencing to prevent distortion, warping, or rework.
  • Conduct pre-weld and post-fit inspections in collaboration with welders.
  • Meet or exceed internal quality standards.
  • Identify misalignments (twist, bow, skew) and correct issues proactively.
  • Maintain accuracy that aligns with engineering intent and shop specifications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with structural steel, flux core, TIG, and MIG welding.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, press brakes, and tape measures.
  • Experience in a shipyard or similar environment is advantageous.
Work Environment

Work takes place in a fabrication shop environment, which can be hot in summer and cold in winter. The role requires working from Monday to Thursday, with current shifts from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Additionally, there is a weekend shift from Friday to Sunday, where you work 36 hours but get paid for 40 hours.

The environment can be dirty, and appropriate attire is necessary.

This is a Permanent position based out of Greenville, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $47,840.00 - $56,160.00 per year.
