Outpatient Nurse

Overview

The Outpatient Nurse (RN) is responsible for the provision of nursing care based on standards of care and professional nursing practice in an outpatient setting that performs specialized procedures and is accountable for the outcomes of nursing care delivered.

• Accompany patients to exam rooms and prepare them for exams.
• Perform and document vital signs.
• Assist with office procedures.
• Prepare and administer medications with physician’s authorization and draw blood.
• Provide patient education regarding office policies, medications, disease management, home treatments and special diets.
• Retrieve lab and X-ray reports, call in prescriptions, perform telephone triage, obtain referrals and authorizations, and complete medical forms.
• Order medical and office supplies, stock exam rooms, clean rooms and instruments, and dispose of biohazard waste in accordance with OSHA standards.
• Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation and other front‑office duties as assigned.
• Coordinate pre‑operative workup including patient education.
• Contact patients prior to procedure to review the pre‑op checklist and document communications.
• Assist with patient preparation and assessment/monitoring before, during, and after an outpatient procedure.
• Assist patient and family with post‑procedure instructions.

• Adn required, BSN preferred.
• General experience in a physician office setting preferred.
• Ability to work with patients, families, physicians and other health care providers with a high level of customer service orientation.
• General proficiency with PC skills and computer knowledge.
• Phlebotomy skills and experience.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to multi‑task.

• Registered Nurse – South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (required).
• Basic Life Support Certified – American Heart Association within 30 days (required).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certified – American Heart Association (preferred).

• Light physical demand.
