Optimal Self MD is downtown Greenville’s first integrated functional medicine and aesthetics practice, led by Dr. Katherine Birchenough, a certified Functional Medicine physician, and Dr. Shawn Birchenough, a board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon. The practice focuses on restoring balance in the body through personalized attention to environmental factors, nutrition, hormone health, inflammation, digestion, detoxification, energy metabolism, and emotional and cognitive wellness. In parallel, the aesthetics side offers advanced aesthetic procedures and a full range of plastic surgery options to help individuals look as good as they feel.

Working collaboratively, the team is committed to helping each person return to their personal best through comprehensive, patient-centered care. Clinicians joining Optimal Self MD become part of a small, highly specialized team focused on innovation, quality, and individualized treatment.

This full-time, on-site role is based in Greenville, SC and is ideal for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) with experience in both aesthetic and regenerative medicine. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting comprehensive patient consultations, performing aesthetic procedures (such as injectables, laser treatments, and skin rejuvenation therapies), and delivering regenerative medicine treatments under established clinical protocols. The provider will collaborate closely with physicians to develop individualized treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and adjust therapies to optimize outcomes.

Additional duties include educating patients on treatment options, wellness strategies, and post-procedure care, as well as maintaining accurate medical records, supporting quality and safety standards, and participating in practice growth initiatives such as patient outreach and education events.

• Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license, with eligibility to practice in South Carolina.
• Clinical experience in aesthetics, dermatology, plastic surgery, regenerative medicine, or related fields; prior experience with injectables and non-surgical cosmetic procedures preferred.
• Strong skills in patient assessment, clinical decision-making, and collaborative care with physicians and other team members.
• Commitment to functional and integrative approaches, including interest in nutrition, hormone optimization, and lifestyle-based wellness.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to build trust, explain complex procedures clearly, and provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
• Detail-oriented documentation and EMR proficiency, with strong organizational and time-management skills in a busy clinical setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, continuing education, and staying current with advances in aesthetic and regenerative therapies.
• Ability to work on-site full time in Greenville, SC, including occasional evening or weekend hours as practice needs require.
• BLS/ACLS certification and adherence to the highest standards of safety, ethics, and infection control
