Job Responsibilities

This employee will be responsible for assisting with habitat development work within Unit 4-C (Donnelley, Bear Island, Botany Bay and Edisto River WMA).

  • Assisting with habitat management activities including agricultural plantings, prescribed burning and mowing.
  • Assisting with the implementation of public hunting on public hunting lands.
  • Providing assistance to WMA hunt participants and collecting necessary biological data as directed.
  • Assisting with the construction and installation of water control structures, bulkehads, grade stabilization structures, etc.
  • Assisting with wetland habitat management activities such as burning and water level management.
  • Performing maintenance on grounds including mowing dikes, grounds, roads and open areas.
  • Preparing and maintaining records and reports as required.
  • Performing maintenance of physical structures including: painting and minor repairs to gates, buildings and other structures as needed.
  • Assisting with the construction and maintenance of signage for Unit 4-C.
  • Assisting with the collection of data including: dove banding, waterfowl banding and surveys.
Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work or an associate degree in the technical sciences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of wildlife management techniques.
  • Ability to operate and repair heavy equipment, tractors, farm implements, power and hand tools.
  • Ability to conduct public hunts.
  • Ability to work independently and perform strenuous tasks.
  • Ability to get along and communicate with fellow employees and the general public.
  • Ability to perform agricultural activities such as disking, mowing, planting and herbicide application.
  • Ability to assist with control burns.
