The Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery is a showcase for local farmers and food artisans. We buy from over 300 local producers to provide the community with a convenient and fun connection to those producers. The Swamp is a fun and fast focused serving delicious food with fresh seasonal and local ingredients.

The Retail General Manager works closely with our Owners, Operation and Kitchen GM’s. Leadership team, and various Department Managers to remove barriers and further the vision of SRCG. The major accountability of the Retail General Manager is to continuously focus on meeting and exceeding guests’ expectations, while keeping up the employee morale, and work ethic; as well as continuing to help SRCG be profitable.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the overall performance, efficiency, and operations of the Coffee Bar, Front of House, Grocery, and Produce departments
  • Directly manages the Coffee Bar, Front of House, Grocery, and Produce managers; holds each responsible for individual and department wide productivity and performance goals. Assists with performance management of hourly staff as needed
  • Is accountable for interdepartmental communication involving Retail portion of the business and how Retail actions impact other departments and vice versa;
    Acts as a liaison between all departments; ensures pertinent information flows to the correct people in a timely and complete manner
  • Responsible for assigned profitability metrics
  • Responsible for implementing assigned preplanned sales, implementing reactive sales, and ensuring all sales discounts are active and relevant
  • Primarily responsible for noticing and flagging floor issues, proposing, implementing and communicating pivots and solutions
  • Responsible for planning, executing, and fine tuning staffing schedule and product levels for events, holidays and weather and pivoting when predictions are off
  • Works closely with the Owners, Operations General Manager and Kitchen General Manager to develop and implement strategic plans to enhance business outcomes
  • Takes 100% ownership of daily store operations relating to the Retail portion of the business; ensures all teams are aware of and are actively working on priorities, prompts managers to anticipate issues and collaborates with them to solve problems
  • Performs store walks and other audits; engages with staff on the floor; models behaviors of success, and jumps in to fill activities when needed
  • Actively ensures all managers and staff are urgently addressing product quality, inventory management, merchandising, product availability and customer orders/requests
  • Actively monitors all operational Slack channels addressing company needs with awareness & urgency
  • Ensures grocery pars remain up to date and are promptly adjusted to meet changing business demands
  • Provides supervision, support, and direction in such a way that promotes clear understanding, accountability and efficiency, and follows all policies, procedures, and laws
  • Creates department schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels, productivity and labor metrics; ensures appropriate management coverage at all times and consistently considers weather/events/holidays for appropriate coverage
  • Monitors and approves/denies time off requests for all retail departments based on overall business needs; approves/denies availability change requests to ensure proper department coverage is consistent
  • Collaborates with HR Department on posting new positions that arise from the need to add additional staffing or cover turnover
  • Works with Department Managers to hire and develop team members; is responsible for scheduling interviews and all candidate communication until hire
  • Works with Department Managers and HR to ensure all new hires are set up for success with an organized training plan and system for remedial training if needed
  • Ensures the departments are clean and safe and serves as the final check and balance to departmental checklists and SOPs
  • Notices and reacts to maintenance issues; follows up on maintenance priorities to ensure completion and communication of relevant information
  • Monitors daily orders from Store to Warehouse and adjusts as necessary; monitors transfers, recounts and loss to maintain a pulse on item movement and identify potential issues; is responsible for product being ordered and received accurately, rotated, out for sale, and remaining…
