Cosmetology Barber Teacher
Greenville ISD is seeking an innovative and student-centered Cosmetology Barber Teacher to prepare students for careers in the barbering industry through high-quality classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory experiences. This position provides students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, professionalism, and work-based learning experiences necessary to earn industry credentials and succeed in postsecondary education or the workforce.
Primary
Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and hands-on experiences in barbering that develop technical knowledge, employability skills, and industry competencies in alignment with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, Career and Technical Education standards, and Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation requirements.
Education and Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred. Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate Career and Technical Education assignment required, or ability to obtain certification as required by the Texas Education Agency. Current Texas Barber Instructor License or appropriate Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation credential required. Must meet all TEA certification and assignment requirements.
Special Knowledge and
Skills:
Knowledge of barbering techniques, sanitation practices, safety procedures, and current industry standards. Knowledge of state licensing requirements and industry regulations. Ability to provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction. Ability to supervise students in a salon laboratory environment. Ability to integrate employability, customer service, and business management skills into instruction. Strong classroom management skills. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, business partners, and industry representatives.
Experience:
Experience as a licensed barber required. Experience teaching, mentoring, or training others preferred. Experience in a school or Career and Technical Education program preferred.
Instruction and Curriculum:
Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and district curriculum. Teach barbering principles, haircutting techniques, shaving, beard design, chemical services, sanitation, infection control, customer service, and salon professionalism. Provide hands-on laboratory instruction using industry-standard equipment and practices. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs. Assess student performance and provide timely feedback to support growth.
Laboratory Management:
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized barber laboratory. Ensure students follow all sanitation, safety, and infection control procedures. Monitor the proper use and maintenance of equipment, tools, and supplies. Maintain inventory and recommend equipment and supply purchases as needed.
Student Success:
Prepare students for industry certification and state licensure examinations. Promote professionalism, leadership, teamwork, and ethical workplace behavior. Assist students in developing career portfolios, resumes, interview skills, and employability skills. Encourage participation in Career and Technical Education student organizations and leadership activities.
Business and Community Partnerships:
Develop relationships with local barbershops, salons, and business partners to support student learning. Promote work-based learning opportunities, job shadowing, internships, and career exploration when appropriate. Support district Career and Technical Education recruitment and community outreach activities.
Professional Responsibilities:
Maintain required certifications and industry credentials. Participate in professional development and industry training. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain accurate records and documentation. Support campus and district initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise students during classroom instruction, laboratory activities, and approved work-based learning experiences.

Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and demonstration of barbering techniques. Ability to lift and move salon equipment and instructional materials. Frequent use of barbering tools, equipment, and instructional technology. Environmental Factors:
Work in classroom and barber laboratory environments. Exposure to hair care products, disinfectants, and salon equipment while following established safety procedures. Mental Demands:
