Position SummaryBridge Brothers is seeking a high-impact Engineering Manager to lead and scale our engineering function in Greenville, SC.
This is a senior, high-visibility leadership role focused not only on technical excellence but also on department growth, standard procedure development, and building a repeatable, high-performing engineering organization. The ideal candidate is a seasoned civil or structural engineering leader with deep steel design experience and a passion for improving systems, people, and project delivery.
You will oversee engineering operations, elevate technical standards, develop scalable processes, and partner cross-functionally to deliver innovative, cost-effective bridge solutions.

Key Responsibilities Strategic & Organizational Leadership- Provide strategic direction and technical oversight for all engineering operations
- Drive the growth, structure, and long-term scalability of the engineering department
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), design workflows, and quality controls
- Establish clear engineering performance metrics and accountability standards
- Partner with executive leadership on capacity planning and resource forecasting
- Serve as the technical authority on civil/structural engineering matters related to bridge design
- Review and approve engineering plans, calculations, and specifications
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (AASHTO, AISC, ASCE, IBC, etc.)
- Support complex design decisions and risk mitigation strategies
- Champion continuous improvement in engineering tools, processes, and QC systems
- Work closely with sales, fabrication, and construction teams to support project execution
- Provide engineering input during project planning, estimating, and value engineering
- Improve handoffs between engineering, shop, and field to reduce rework and surprises
- Support business development with technical credibility when needed
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and designers
- Support hiring, onboarding, and performance development of engineering staff
- Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and technical rigor
- Identify skill gaps and implement targeted training initiatives
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- PE license required
- 10–15+ years of progressive structural engineering experience
- Strong background in steel design (bridge experience strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated experience building or improving engineering processes and systems
- Strong working knowledge of AASHTO, AISC, ASCE, IBC, and related standards
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, custom-engineering environment
- Experience leading and scaling engineering teams
- Experience supporting custom steel fabrication environments
- Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, Tekla, Solid Works, or similar
