Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc., a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, offers an entry-level Controls Engineer position based at our Warehouse Product Development Center (WPDC) in Greenville, North Carolina. This role focuses on developing lift trucks and implementing robotic technology into current products by creating, modifying, and implementing solutions across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities- Design and develop Real Time Embedded control systems for powered industrial vehicles, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Validate control systems through rigorous testing—software-in-loop (SIL), hardware-in-loop (HIL), and in-vehicle methods—to ensure functionality and safety.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues by conducting root-cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.
- Create and maintain documentation for design, evaluation, and compliance to support marketing, manufacturing, and service teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support efficient, cost‑effective product development and production processes.
- High‑performing engineering graduate with a solid foundation in control theory, electronics, and attention to detail.
- Strong problem‑solver with a proactive, adaptable mindset and eagerness to learn new tools and technologies.
- Quick learner with a genuine curiosity for new concepts and software programs.
- Effective communicator able to clearly explain technical ideas to diverse audiences.

Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering with a focus in Controls; recent graduate or possessing limited professional experience in Control Systems.
Required Skills- Academic focus on control system design, architecture, and theory, including electronic hardware, embedded software, and real‑time control networks.
- Basic proficiency in C and Python programming, with exposure to development tools like Git and Azure Dev Ops and familiarity with Agile software practices.
- Understanding of embedded software and operating system concepts.
- Experience with model‑based development using Simulink, as well as software creation for controlling physical devices.
- Knowledge of industry communication protocols such as J1939 and CANO
pen. - Relevant experience in material handling, automotive, or related industries, and ability to operate forklift trucks (training provided if needed).
