Transportation Engineer III, IV or V

Position held in the Greenville Area Office, overseeing corridor management for IH‑30, including design schematics, CE&M, testing, and mobility projects in Hunt and Rains Counties. This is an opportunity to lead projects that improve safety, mobility and connectivity.

This opening is for one of the levels: III, IV or V, based on experience and qualifications. The Texas Department of Transportation will determine level.

Salary
  • B26: $76,530 – $129,430 yearly
  • B27: $84,182 – $142,374 yearly
  • B28: $92,600 – $156,612 yearly
Location

Greenville/Hunt County, Texas (I‑30 EAST). Onsite; 5% travel.

Responsibilities
  • Advanced and complex engineering work in planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards.
  • Contact with governmental officials and private entities.
  • Self‑sufficient in planning work to establish priorities.
  • Review and approval of construction related to operations.
  • Review shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, agreements and change orders.
  • Review traffic engineering studies, traffic impact analysis, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.
  • Assist area engineers, design, computer operations and plan preparation.
  • Monitor consultants’ progress and quality; check invoices; prepare supplemental agreements.
  • Oversee contracts, issue work orders, monitor construction schedules and contractor payments.

    Coordinate review and processing of PS&E submission, special specifications or provisions.
  • Assess and report actual project progress vs. planned progress; conduct trend analyses.
  • Perform final inspections on completed construction projects.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science, or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
  • Minimum Experience:

    6 years (III) / 7 years (IV) / 8 years (V) of engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience. Graduate level education can substitute one year per year of experience.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license required. Position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Professional Engineer license in Texas; if licensed elsewhere, must obtain Texas license within six months.
Key Technical Skills
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, practices and methods.
  • Construction engineering policies and procedures.
  • Construction phasing and sequencing.
  • Pavement concepts, methods, policies and requirements.
  • Design and plan preparation methods and requirements.
  • Project changes using critical path method and EIS management tools.
  • Maintaining safe effective working relationships.
Physical Requirements
  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.
  • Subject to noise, vibration.
  • Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs, frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
Other Requirements
  • Pre‑employment physical.
  • Drug test required before employment for safety impact positions. Random drug testing may occur.
