Job Description:
The Director, Subcontracts is responsible for leading all subcontracting activities across domestic and international programs, including direct commercial sales (DCS). This role oversees the full subcontract lifecycle to ensure cost, schedule, and performance objectives are achieved. The Director will shape sourcing strategies, assess and mitigate supplier risk, drive robust contractual negotiations, and ensure compliance with both U.S. Government regulations and international commercial requirements.
This leader will develop subcontract documentation, manage supplier performance, guide strategic procurement decisions, and elevate subcontracting capabilities across the enterprise.
- Lead end-to-end subcontract management for both domestic and international programs, including complex direct commercial sales (DCS) environments.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with cost, schedule, technical, and risk requirements.
- Drive negotiations related to cost, terms and conditions, technical performance, and delivery schedules.
- Ensure full compliance with FAR, DFARS, and applicable international commercial regulations, export controls, and contractual frameworks.
- Prepare, release, and manage solicitations including RFPs, RFQs, bidder conferences, evaluations, and award recommendations.
- Author and administer subcontracts, modifications, change orders, and related contractual documents.
- Assess supplier capabilities, financial stability, performance risk, and create executable mitigation plans.
- Partner closely with functional stakeholders across Supply Chain, Contracts, Program Management, Engineering, and Material Management to enable seamless execution.
- Build and mature international subcontracting processes, procedures, and governance for DCS and foreign customer engagements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing subcontract management team through clear roadmaps, training frameworks, and talent development plans.
- Support strategic business development pursuits by serving as the subcontracting subject matter expert for complex systems and services.
- Identify, track, and mitigate subcontracting risks; report status and trends through KPIs and supplier performance metrics.
- Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, standardization, and innovative sourcing strategies.
- Manage organizational change and enhance workload management discipline within the subcontracting team.
- Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, providing clear, concise, and actionable guidance.
- Demonstrate business acumen balanced with the technical understanding needed to support complex aerospace and defense programs.
