TxDOT is looking for a Material/Process Inspector I or II in our Greenville Area Office in the Paris District.

Salary ranges by level:

• Material/Process Inspector I – B18: $45,521 – $71,055 yearly
• Material/Process Inspector II – B19: $48,244 – $76,028 yearly

Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants, and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

• Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, and material producers and suppliers.
• Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
• Secures, logs in, and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
• Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses, and project sites to monitor status of programs.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

• Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
• Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports.
• Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements.
• Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
• Maintains inventory of test supplies.

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent in general high school studies.
• Experience for Material/Process Inspector I: No experience required.
• Experience for Material/Process Inspector II: 1 year laboratory work, material inspection, or other engineering‑related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent).

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

• Attention to detail and reviewing information to identify errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information.
• Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
• Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
• Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.

• Knowledge of materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.
• Knowledge of applicable testing methods, processes, and procedures.
• Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and methodologies.
• Skill in conducting laboratory tests.

• Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
• Subject to noise, vibration, and hazards such as moving vehicles, mechanical parts, high places, heat, or chemicals.
• Subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
• Required to wear protective gear—respirator, hard hat, or other device.
• Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
• Standing, walking, and moving on foot between work sites for extended periods.
• Talking—expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
• This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre‑employment physical.
• Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. Random drug testing applies.
