GEUS​/R.O.W. GROUNDMAN

FUNCTION:
Works on the ground performing the manual labor necessary to clear/trim vegetation from the GEUS right-of way overhead transmission, distribution, secondary, and service facilities to minimize storm and short-circuit hazards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Performs duties under direct supervision.

* Will learn to safely operate and properly maintain machinery and equipment including: chainsaw, brush chippers, pole pruners, etc.

* Learn, understand, and follow all GEUS safety rules and policies.

* Work safely at all times to protect self, other crew, public, GEUS property and equipment, and personal and public property from injury or damage.

* Participate in job briefings (tailboard discussions) for each job as described in the GEUS Safety Manual.

* Attend and participate in safety and training meetings.

* Subject to on-call duty and emergency response after normal working hours.

* Safely operate a chainsaw to cut, trim, and buck trees and brush.

* Drag brush from R.O.W. and safely chip brush using brush chipper.

* Observe and assist Linemen and tree trimmers working aloft.

* Learn to anticipate tools and materials needed by Linemen and tree trimmers.

* Learn names of tools and materials of the trade and their applications.

* Load and unload material for the job.

* Clean up the work area.

* Begin training to learn to distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electrical equipment and determine the nominal voltage of exposed live parts and become knowledgeable of minimum approach distances and corresponding voltages.

* Shall perform other duties and work as assigned.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

* Class C Operators license.

* High school diploma or equivalent

* Some proficiency using hand tools.

* Required to perform annual training, including Bucket Rescue.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

* Work is often strenuous and is outdoors, daytime and sometimes nighttime, in all weather including inclement weather.

* Able to lift a 10' crossarm, weighing 88 pounds from floor to chest height; return crossarm safely to floor.

* Safely generate push and pull forces of 65 pounds.

* Ascend and descend a 5-rung ladder 20 times, without exceeding 85% of Maximum Permissible Heart Rate (Karvonen formula).

* Lift and carry 88 pounds
