This is a Social Worker Level 3 position. However, if there are no appropriate Level 3 applicants, applications from Level 1 and 2 will be considered. The selection criteria reflect the requirements for a Level 3 applicant. Responses from Level 1 or 2 applicants need to demonstrate their level of competence with regard to the same criteria and their ability to work towards Level 3.
The expected performance of the incumbent will be commensurate with his/her years of experience and current level at commencement of appointment. The incumbent will work towards meeting the criteria for Level 3.

At Muswellbrook Community Health, you’ll be part of a close-knit, collaborative team delivering a highly regarded Young Parent Social Work service across the Upper Hunter. This is a meaningful opportunity to support pregnant and parenting families under 25, providing evidence-based clinical care in both home and community settings.
We’re seeking a Social Worker who is adaptable, compassionate and confident working with vulnerable families. Someone who values teamwork, brings sound clinical judgement, and is passionate about strengthening outcomes for young parents and their children.

In this position, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based clinical and case management services to young parents and their families. Your work will include:
- Delivering home and community-based parenting and attachment-focused interventions
- Co-facilitating young parent support groups
- Working collaboratively with housing, DCJ, DFV, maternity, and child & family health services
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences and Safe Start processes
- Supporting families across rural and remote communities, building strong local partnerships
This is a dynamic and rewarding role requiring advanced clinical skills, professional judgement and the ability to manage complex psychosocial presentations with confidence and compassion.
RequirementsTo be considered for this position, you must:
- Hold, at minimum, a Bachelor degree in Social Work that provides eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), or another qualification deemed equivalent by the employer
- Hold a current unrestricted driver’s licence and have the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes, which may involve driving long distances
You will be line managed by the Social Work Head of Discipline based in Muswellbrook and supported by the wider Social Work team and Young Parent Network across Hunter New England Health.
Support includes:
- Monthly individual supervision
- Monthly group supervision and team meetings
- Extensive internal and external training opportunities
- Guidance and mentoring from experienced Young Parent Social Workers, including support during orientation
