Senior Airborne Software Engineer

A large company in Greenville, TX Harris is seeking Senior Airborne Software Engineers to support mission-critical ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) programs. These engineers will join a team responsible for processing, transporting, and analyzing data collected from airborne surveillance platforms. This is a full-stack position with a strong emphasis on backend software development. The team develops and modernizes applications that support aircraft-to-ground communications, data dissemination, streaming audio, file transfer services, and ISR mission systems.

Successful candidates will work closely with Systems Engineers and end users, spending time in operational labs to better understand how airborne data is collected, transmitted, processed, and utilized. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building scalable software solutions, troubleshooting distributed systems, and understanding how software interacts with real-world mission environments. Responsibilities will include:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services supporting ISR ground processing systems
• Build and enhance microservice-based applications from the ground up
• Develop APIs and data interfaces utilizing Google Protocol Buffers (Protobuf)
• Process, transform, analyze, and disseminate mission data from airborne platforms
• Work with streaming data, messaging systems, and real-time communication services
• Support modernization initiatives across legacy and next-generation applications
• Implement and maintain containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, or Podman
• Collaborate with Systems Engineers to troubleshoot software, integration, and data flow issues
• Debug complex software and system-level issues across distributed environments
• Support front-end GUI enhancements and user interface development as needed
• Create and maintain scripting solutions using Python and Batch scripting
• Participate in lab testing and system integration activities to better understand operational workflows Integrate third-party software and services into existing mission systems
