Greenwich Hospital is seeking a dedicated Per Diem, On‑Call Emergency Department / Consultation‑Liaison Psychiatrist to join our collaborative and patient‑centered Psychiatry team. The psychiatrist will provide psychiatric coverage for the Emergency Department as well as Consultation‑Liaison services for patients on the medical floors.
Please note:
Greenwich Hospital does not have an inpatient psychiatric unit.
In this consultative role, the psychiatrist will deliver a broad range of therapeutic interventions to a diverse patient population.
Responsibilities include:
* Conducting psychiatric diagnostic assessments
* Medication evaluation and management
* Suicide risk assessments
* Crisis intervention
* Close interdisciplinary collaboration with ED and medical teams to support patients with acute and complex psychiatric needs
Patients requiring inpatient psychiatric admission are transferred to partner hospitals in Connecticut and New York, with Case Management coordinating all transfers
Important Role Structure (Please Read Before Applying)
This is an on‑call, per diem, non‑permanent position.
Coverage consists of:
* Monday-Friday: 4:00 p.m.
- 8:00 a.m.
* Weekends: 8:00 a.m. Saturday - 8:00 a.m. Monday
Key Details:
* This is not daily or continuous coverage.
* Shifts are intermittent and scheduled only on an as‑needed basis.
* Coverage may be requested for:
* Faculty/staff vacations
* Leaves of absence
* Unexpected schedule gaps
* This is not a permanent or full‑time role.
* The position exists solely to provide as‑needed on‑call coverage.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Greenwich Hospital comprises four services. The Outpatient Clinic provides medication management and individual therapy to adult and geriatric patients who contend with a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses including depressive, anxiety, bipolar, psychotic disorders and those facing challenges unique to the aging process. The Addiction Recovery Center (ARC) is a group-based outpatient program serving those with substance use disorders.
ARC offers a 3-day per week IOP program as well as less intensive levels of care. Medication-Assisted Treatments including buprenorphine-naloxone are offered in addition to medication management for co-morbid psychiatric diagnoses while patients are enrolled in the program. The Center for Behavioral and Nutritional Health is an outpatient program offering individual and group therapy to promote sustainable psychological, behavioral, and nutritional changes necessary for overall health management and reduction in the risk of developing complications associated with acute and chronic medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
* Provides diagnostic assessment and psychiatric treatment to individuals who present themselves to the Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment Center, Hospital Emergency Room or Inpatient Unit, with symptoms of mental illness or emotional distress
* Functions as an effective member of the mental health team.
* Skilled and proficient in electronic medical record documentation for management of patients under psychiatric treatment.
* Contributes to the productivity and efficient operation of the Psychiatric Treatment Center.
* Responsible for maintaining positive patient and guest relations.
* Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and process the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age…
