Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with current enrollment of over 1400 students in grades N–12 and a faculty and staff of over 350. Greenwich Country Day School seeks a dynamic and experienced Mandarin Teacher for Grades 6–8, to start in August 2026. The ideal candidate will have a passion for world language instruction and cultural studies, as well as the ability to foster curiosity, communication skills, and global awareness in students. This position requires an educator who can inspire students to develop proficiency in Mandarin while emphasizing meaningful language use, cultural understanding, and joyful learning.
Responsibilities Include:- Develop and deliver a comprehensive Mandarin language curriculum for students in Grades 6–8, incorporating speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
- Create an engaging and supportive classroom environment that encourages risk-taking, collaboration, and active language use
- Teach Mandarin through immersive and communicative approaches, including project-based and inquiry-based learning
- Integrate cultural studies, authentic resources, and real-world applications into language instruction
- Differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying levels of language proficiency
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments aligned with curriculum goals
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to support interdisciplinary learning and global initiatives
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and learning goals
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Mandarin/Chinese, Education, World Languages, or a related field
- A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience with students in this age group, or demonstrated professional competency
- Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin
- Experience with inquiry-based and/or project-based learning
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging learning environment
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the life of the school
- Advanced degree in academic/research field and/or professional experience within your area of practice
- Ability and interest in teaching additional world language courses such as Spanish, French, and/or Latin
- Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students
- Athletic coaching experience
- Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative relationships with external partners/organizations in the design and implementation of learning experiences
