Child Development Center Substitute Assistant Teacher
The CT State Community College is developing a pool of applicants for potential part-time Child Development Center Substitute Assistant Teacher positions (up to 17 hours per week). Position SummaryThe Child Development Substitute Assistant Teacher assists in teaching, protecting, and caring for preschool children in a College child development center. The Center provides childcare, child development, nutrition, and related services for preschool children of students, staff, and the community.
Example ofJob Duties
Under the supervision of the Director of the Child Development Center, the Substitute Assistant Teacher will contribute to the development, protection, and care of children enrolled in the College’s Child Development Center through:
- Carrying out planned learning activities and preparing materials and equipment
- Conducting learning activities with the children
- Supervising children’s activities to ensure safety and assisting with eating and toileting
- Monitoring children’s progress and reporting observations to the regular classroom teacher
- Sharing pertinent information with parents about their child’s daily experience
- Maintaining the safe and clean condition of the center facility and equipment
Maintaining currency in required professional competencies and certifications (e.g., Red Cross first aid and CPR) and maintaining confidentiality of student records.

Minimum QualificationsSuccessful Candidate must have or possess:
- Experience working with young children (ages 6 months - 5 years)
- Experience in early childhood education
