Visual Arts Teacher
Greenwich Public Schools seeks a full-time visual arts teacher to teach four classes at Central Middle School, and a fifth class at the Windrose Alternative High School. Position purpose is to provide an instructional program that will help students to create, perform, and respond with understanding to the arts. Students will appreciate the importance of the arts in expressing human experiences and be prepared to apply their arts knowledge and skill throughout their lifetimes.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of current art instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as the ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles. Experience teaching to the National Core Arts Standards is required. Ability to use a computer network system and software applications as needed, organize and coordinate work, communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians, engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work are also essential.
Responsibilities include administering school art curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, providing instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation, utilizing a variety of social-emotional and art therapeutic strategies to engage all diverse learners, conducting ongoing assessment of student skills and learning in artistic techniques and expression, demonstrating techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, developing instructional plans and organizing class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time, instructing pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment used in art classes, and creating learning opportunities through which students can analyze and evaluate artistic expression both intellectually and emotionally.
Qualifications include CT State Certification, or certifiability, in Art, Grades PreK-12 (#042) required.
