Position Overview
Apollo is a high‑growth, global alternative asset manager focused on delivering excess return across the risk‑reward spectrum. The Tax Professional will join Apollo’s global Remuneration Tax team and primarily handle U.S. employment tax, benefits taxation, equity compensation, and international mobility matters for Apollo’s U.S. operations.
Primary Responsibilities- Advise on U.S. federal and state tax implications of equity compensation plans (RSUs, restricted shares, and other deferred arrangements).
- Support tax analysis for new compensation plan designs and amendments, providing input on U.S. tax structuring.
- Build knowledge of carried‑interest structures and co‑investment arrangements, coordinating with specialist tax teams when needed.
- Guide the tax impacts of U.S. mobility, including inter‑office transfers, international assignees, and state‑to‑state relocations.
- Provide guidance on New York State and City domicile/residency rules, statutory day‑count tests, permanent place of abode, and safe harbor provisions for international relocations.
- Advise on shadow payroll obligations for inbound assignees and outbound U.S. employees, overseeing withholding and reporting standards.
- Address U.S. tax implications of business travel, state tax nexus creation, withholding thresholds, and tracking requirements.
- Develop and contribute to tax briefing materials for employees traveling or relocating to/from U.S. locations.
- Handle U.S. federal, state, and local employment tax matters, including FICA, FUTA, state unemployment, and local payroll taxes across all U.S. entities.
- Provide tax guidance on employee benefits such as company cars, health and welfare benefits, and other perquisites.
- Support tax aspects of employee terminations, settlement agreements, and retirement arrangements, including post‑employment deferred items.
- Manage relationships with U.S. external advisors, scoping engagements, monitoring fees, and ensuring quality of advice.
- Act as the primary U.S. liaison between the Remuneration Tax team and internal stakeholders (Human Capital, Payroll, Legal/Tax Counsel, Finance).
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Apollo’s global remuneration tax policies and procedures as they relate to U.S. operations.
- Support adoption of technology tools, including AI, to improve efficiency and accuracy within the Remuneration Tax function.
- Stay current on U.S. federal, state, and local tax legislative and regulatory developments affecting employment tax, compensation, and international mobility.
- 6+ years of experience in U.S. employment tax, executive compensation tax, or international mobility tax at a Big4, law firm, or in‑house firm in finance or alternative asset management.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. federal and multi‑state income tax withholding and reporting, including equity and deferred compensation.
- Experience with international employee mobility tax (ex‑patriate/in‑patriate tax, tax equalization, shadow payroll).
- Familiarity with New York State/City residency and domicile rules is highly desirable.
- CPA or U.S. Enrolled Agent preferred; alternative asset management or private equity industry experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot.
- Strong drive, initiative, and ability to own projects independently.
- Excellent stakeholder liaison skills across jurisdictions and time zones.
- Ability to translate technical research into practical, business‑oriented solutions.
- Energetic, forward‑thinking, ethical, with superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Pay Range$140,000–$205,000(plus discretionary annual bonus and potential equity).
