  • Support tax analysis for new compensation plan designs and amendments, providing input on U.S. tax structuring.
  • Build knowledge of carried‑interest structures and co‑investment arrangements, coordinating with specialist tax teams when needed.
  • Guide the tax impacts of U.S. mobility, including inter‑office transfers, international assignees, and state‑to‑state relocations.
  • Provide guidance on New York State and City domicile/residency rules, statutory day‑count tests, permanent place of abode, and safe harbor provisions for international relocations.
  • Advise on shadow payroll obligations for inbound assignees and outbound U.S. employees, overseeing withholding and reporting standards.
  • Address U.S. tax implications of business travel, state tax nexus creation, withholding thresholds, and tracking requirements.
  • Develop and contribute to tax briefing materials for employees traveling or relocating to/from U.S. locations.
  • Handle U.S. federal, state, and local employment tax matters, including FICA, FUTA, state unemployment, and local payroll taxes across all U.S. entities.
  • Provide tax guidance on employee benefits such as company cars, health and welfare benefits, and other perquisites.
  • Support tax aspects of employee terminations, settlement agreements, and retirement arrangements, including post‑employment deferred items.
  • Manage relationships with U.S. external advisors, scoping engagements, monitoring fees, and ensuring quality of advice.
  • Act as the primary U.S. liaison between the Remuneration Tax team and internal stakeholders (Human Capital, Payroll, Legal/Tax Counsel, Finance).
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Apollo’s global remuneration tax policies and procedures as they relate to U.S. operations.
  • Support adoption of technology tools, including AI, to improve efficiency and accuracy within the Remuneration Tax function.
  • Stay current on U.S. federal, state, and local tax legislative and regulatory developments affecting employment tax, compensation, and international mobility.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 6+ years of experience in U.S. employment tax, executive compensation tax, or international mobility tax at a Big4, law firm, or in‑house firm in finance or alternative asset management.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. federal and multi‑state income tax withholding and reporting, including equity and deferred compensation.
  • Experience with international employee mobility tax (ex‑patriate/in‑patriate tax, tax equalization, shadow payroll).
  • Familiarity with New York State/City residency and domicile rules is highly desirable.
  • CPA or U.S. Enrolled Agent preferred; alternative asset management or private equity industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot.
  • Strong drive, initiative, and ability to own projects independently.
  • Excellent stakeholder liaison skills across jurisdictions and time zones.
  • Ability to translate technical research into practical, business‑oriented solutions.
