Our client is a leading hedge fund. The firm is seeking a Controller to cover their credit funds. Investments include performing and nonperforming corporate debt, private debt, high-yield, and developed and emerging markets government bonds.
The Hedge Fund Controller is a critical member of the Finance team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the fund's financial operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in hedge fund accounting, with a particular focus on credit investments, including private credit, and credit restructurings. Experience with emerging markets credit is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all fund vehicles, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, AIFMD), and investor reporting standards.
- Prepare and review investor capital calls and distributions.
- Manage the production of performance reports for investors and internal stakeholders.
- Supervise the daily operations of the fund accounting team, including the assistant controller/senior fund accountant and fund accountant.
- Oversee the daily recording of all fund transactions, including investments, dividends, interest income, expenses, and capital calls.
- Manage the reconciliation of all fund accounts, including bank accounts, brokerage accounts, and investor accounts.
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of all investor subscriptions and redemptions.
Monitor and manage fund cash flow and liquidity. - Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Participate in special projects as needed.
- Assist with the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in hedge fund accounting, with a strong emphasis on credit investments.
- Proven experience with credit, private credit, and/or credit restructurings.
- Experience with emerging markets credit is a significant plus.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles applicable to hedge funds.
- Strong experience with the Geneva accounting system is essential.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.
