JOB TITLE: Banquet Captain

REPORTS TO: Banquet Manager

COMPENSATION: Hourly (Non-Exempt Status)

The position is key in executing private events, banquets, and Club functions. This position supervises banquet staff, ensures excellent service, and coordinates with the culinary and events teams to deliver a seamless and memorable experience for members and guests. It provides a high standard of appearance, hospitality, and service in personnel/agency staff.

Who we are:

  • Burning Tree Country Club is, first and foremost, a private golf club that places high importance on the creation of an open and family-oriented environment.
  • The club was founded in 1962.
  • Our amenities include an 18-hole golf course that has hosted US Open Qualifiers and Met PGA events, an 8-lane 25-meter pool with a diving well, Har-Tru tennis courts, a platform tennis complex, and multiple member and event dining options. We also have active junior programs in golf, tennis, and aquatics.
  • We take pride in our daily ala carte service and the first-class events created by our Events & Banquets Team.
  • Our Food & Beverage department includes various ala carte outlets (indoors and outdoors, i.e. The Grille Room, Founders Bar, Patio and Salons), catering to all Members' and guests needs according to established rules and etiquette.

The Essentials

Event Execution & Oversight

  • Ensure all event setups are completed according to BEO specifications (tables, linens, chairs, signage, equipment).
  • Supervise and assist in the setup and breakdown of all events, including proper room resets.
  • Conduct final walkthroughs before events begin to ensure quality and readiness.

Event Closings

  • Ensure events are properly closed, including breakdown, clean-up, and storage of all items.
  • Complete and submit post-event closing checklists and event recaps.
  • Report any damage, missing items, or issues from events.

Banquet ware Inventory Management.

  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of banquetware (glasses, dishes, flatware, serving pieces, etc.).
  • Notify the Events Director or Banquet Manager of any shortages, damage, or reorder needs.
  • Ensure banquetware is cleaned, stored, and rotated properly.

Linen Ordering & Event-Specific Inventory

  • Manage linen inventory and coordinate orders based on event needs.
  • Track incoming and outgoing linens to avoid shortages or overages.
  • Maintain a clean and organized linen storage area.

Housekeeping & Equipment Organization

  • Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of all event-related storage and prep areas.
  • Organize and maintain event equipment (easels, signage, buffets, podiums, audio-visual, etc.).
  • Keep weekly equipment checklists to ensure readiness for upcoming events.

Staff Supervision & Support

Assist with training and guiding service staff during set-up and events.

Ensure that the service team is well-prepared, groomed, and informed of event expectations.

Fill in during busy periods or last-minute staff gaps.

The Expectations

Weekly & Monthly Tasks

  • Prepare a weekly overview of upcoming events with equipment and setup needs.
  • Support monthly deep cleans and reorganization of storage areas.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings with the Events and Banquet Managers.
  • Communication & Coordination
  • Provide feedback on setups, logistics, and staff performance for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation policies.
  • Close out events properly, including reporting hours, returning supplies, and completing post-event checklists.

The Standards

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in banquet service or hospitality leadership preferred (minimum 1–2 years).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to high service standards.
  • Flexible schedule, including availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of banquet-style service (plated, buffet, stations, etc.).
  • Familiarity with BEOs and event timelines.
  • Basic understanding of food & beverage operations and wine/spirits.
  • Food handler certification is a plus.
