The Nurse Manager is responsible for the 24‑hour operational management of the designated unit and reports to the Program Director. This responsibility includes the supervision, direction, and support of the nursing staff, as well as adherence to nursing standards. The nurse manager is accountable for financial management.

Responsibilities- Lead the activities of the nursing care unit, planning models of care to deliver optimal and safe patient care while meeting Nursing Standards.
- Facilitate development of nursing staff on the unit, identifying knowledge or practice deficits through observation and collaborating with the Education Department to provide educational programs.
- Maintain quality of staff work and unit management, involving staff in developing and meeting yearly goals aligned with the hospital mission, with bi‑yearly evaluations.
- Ensure cost‑effective management of the unit, participating in annual budget development with the Program Director.
- Promote teamwork by embracing shared goals versus narrower interests and fostering active cooperation.
- Be knowledgeable, accountable, and fiscally responsible, continually seeking ways to sustain and improve skills.
- Show flexibility and open‑mindedness, listening with an open mind to others' opinions.
- Treat patients, visitors, and staff as guests, welcoming them with courtesy and a warm, friendly manner.

- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles across the lifespan, and applying unit policies and procedures.
Education
BSN required.
Experience
Five (5) years on a hospital nursing unit, with two (2) to three (3) years of management preferred.
Licensure
RN licensed in the State of Connecticut.
Special SkillsCQI/QA, charge responsibilities, shared governance, yearly competencies, mandatory in‑services. Serves as a resource in medical/surgical nursing scope, interacting with patient‑centered care teams, patients, families, and YNHH System. Professionalism with staff and other hospital personnel. Moderate stress from scheduling, meetings, and deadlines.
Physical DemandStanding, walking, frequently pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting, and working in awkward positions. Able to help lift objects and patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds. Moderate stress from coordinating and supervising unit staff. Exposure to infectious diseases/blood/body fluids, physical, mental, and emotional illness, end‑of‑life conditions, and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care.
AdditionalInformation
Experience in Oncology, ONS Chemo Bio certification, OCN within 6 months.
