Family Health Division Director

Directs the operation of the Family Health Division, overseeing the application and implementation of established family health nursing policies. Works in a hands-on capacity with direct program supervision and acts as the Director of Health in their absence. Reports to the Director of Health.

Qualifications

Experience and education:

Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) and a Master's Degree in Public Health (MPH) from an accredited college or university;
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and MPH preferred; and 5 years of experience in Public Health with 2 years of supervisory experience.

Special Requirements:

Valid Driver's License

State of CT Registered Nurse (RN) license

Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate or obtainable within one (1) year

Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices, methods and techniques of family and community health nursing.

Proven knowledge of public health laws, regulations, and State Statutes.

Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and the use of appropriate software applications.

Proven ability to provide leadership, exercise independent judgment and operate effectively under pressure.

Demonstrated ability to comply with the appropriate standards, requisitions and requirements on a timely basis.

Proven ability to supervise and instruct staff in the principles and practices of family and community health nursing.

Demonstrated ability to speak in public regarding community health needs and to obtain individual and public cooperation.

Proven ability to deal tactfully and courteously with officials, professionals, and the public.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.

100% Training & Experience Assessment

The examination to determine a candidate's eligibility for the position will be a Training and Experience Assessment. Job Description

Department: Health Department Division: Family Health Bargaining Status: LIUNA Salary Range: L-A FLSA Status: Exempt

Duties and Responsibilities:

Promotes and supports health related practices, programs, activities and initiatives among general and special population groups, establishing priorities, coordinating resources, modifying programs and evaluating all family health programs.

Directs all Department programs such as Adult and Senior Health, Maternal and Child Health, Immunization and Testing Services, and Communicable and Infectious Disease, as well as other programs assigned by the Director of Health.

Ensures that program goals are met in the provision of nursing care, the furtherance of education and research, and the participation in other community health programs.

Assesses accomplishments of the program areas utilizing predetermined program goals and objectives and prepares special reports as required.

Manages a qualified staff of nurse practitioners, public health nurses, and clerical support, determining staffing needs and staffing patterns, delegating and sharing responsibilities with all staff as appropriate.

Establishes program policies and procedures that adequately support nursing care standards, creating formal lines of communication and accountability among staff, stakeholders and the public.

Fosters positive working relationships with staff members, colleagues, physicians and members of other health professions, school personnel, and agencies in regard to family health and community planning.

Provides professional expertise for information gathering, processing and dissemination.

Provides leadership in planning training programs to meet the needs of staff.

Prepares and manages all aspects of Division budget.

Creates billing reports for all Program services.

Attends and participates in meetings to provide and secure information that will enhance delivery of health care, representing the Department on community committees and participating in community health assessments.

Prepares special reports as required and attends Board of Health meetings regarding activities of the Division.

Attends CT Department of Public Health meetings with local health departments.

Ensures, through the required processes, adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, including the appropriate program-related forms.

Consistently strives to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and works cooperatively to provide quality seamless customer service.
